Rick Foucheux to Star in Jim Lehrer's BELL for National Geographic Live, 9/12-21

By:

Join us in celebrating National Geographic's 125th anniversary with the world premiere of the play BELL. Written by veteran journalist, author, and playwright-yes, playwright-Jim Lehrer, starring celebrated Washington actor Rick Foucheux, and directed by Jeremy Skidmore, this one-man play reveals the extraordinary life of Alexander Graham Bell. The production will open at National Geographic headquarters on Thursday, September 12, and will run through Saturday, September 21.

A daring, disorganized genius whose eye was always on the future, Bell is best known as the inventor of the telephone. But there was much more to this charismatic mastermind. A deeply committed family man, teacher of the deaf, holder of 47 patents, and National Geographic's second president, Bell embodied the spirit of exploration with his never-ending curiosity for world and all that's in it.

Jim Lehrer is an award-winning journalist, the executive director and former news anchor for PBS Newshour, and is known for his role as a frequent debate moderator during presidential elections. He is the author of 20 novels, two memoirs, three plays and a non-fiction work about the presidential debates, Tension City, published in 2011.

Rick Foucheux is one of Washington, D.C.'s most respected actors, and a veteran of one-man shows about such historical figures as Buckminster Fuller, Elia Kazan, Charles Darwin, and Samuel Clemens. His many roles have included Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman at Arena Stage, Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night at the Shakespeare Theatre, and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at the Olney Theatre Center. He received the Helen Hayes Outstanding Lead Actor Award in 2000 and in 2006.

Jeremy Skidmore has been based in Washington, DC for the last ten years. In that time he has served for two years as Producer of the Source Festival and for six years as the Artistic Director of Theater Alliance where he produced 22 productions in five years that garnered 22 Helen Hayes nominations.
