Photo Flash: Signature Theatre Hosts the DC Premiere of JOHN

By:

Signature Theatre is proud to present the DC premiere of Annie Baker's John, directed by Signature Theatre Director of New Work Joe Calarco (Signature's The Gulf, Jesus Christ Superstar). Elias and Jenny, a young Brooklyn couple, escape on a much-needed getaway to a cozy bed-and-breakfast in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. However, under the watchful eye of the cheery, if slightly off, innkeeper, a ghost seems to haunt their crumbling relationship. Annie Baker's John was called "so good on so many levels that it casts a unique and brilliant light" by The New Yorker. John will run April 3 - April 29 in Signature Theatre's MAX Theatre.

"Signature Theatre is thrilled to be presenting the Washington premiere of Annie Baker's newest hit play John, featuring Washington favorite Nancy Robinette," said Signature Theatre Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer. "As one of the country's leading playwrights, we look forward to bringing Annie's words to our stage and audiences."

"The Flick was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences I've ever had directing a play, so doing Annie Baker's next major work was a no brainer for me," said Joe Calarco. "It's a hilarious, exquisitely beautiful play, and it also gives me the chance to work with Nancy Robinette again. She was born to be in this play."

The production stars Nancy Robinette (Broadway's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Signature's Walter Cronkite is Dead) as Mertis and Ilona Dulaski (Signature's Silver Belles) as Genevieve, and Signature Theatre newcomers Jonathan Feuer (Shakespeare Theatre's As You Like It) as Elias and Anna Moon (ABC's Castle) as Jenny.

The creative team includes Scenic Design by Paige Hathaway (Signature's The Gulf), Lighting Design by Andrew Cissna (Signature's The Gulf), Costume Design by Debra Kim Sivigny (Olney's Every Brilliant Thing), Sound Design by Kenny Neal (Signature's The Gulf), Production Stage ManagerKerry Epstein, Production Assistant Katie Mosher.
