Monumental Theatre Company Announces Cast for DADDY LONG LEGS Image

Monumental Theatre Company's Daddy Long Legs tells the story of Jerusha Abbott, her mysterious young benefactor and the affection that grows between them by way of handwritten letters. John Caird's Drama Desk Award-winning book for this stage musical combines the love story derived from the 1912 novel by Jean Webster with contemporary music and lyrics by Paul Gordon. Daddy Long Legs will run from March 7 through March 30, 2019.

Caroline Wolfson leads as the college-aged orphan Jerusha Abbott. Wolfson has recently been seen in As You Like It at Keegan Theatre and as Miriam in Fly by Night at 1st Stage, a role which earned her the 2018 Helen Hayes Award nomination. Kurt Boehm, who most recently appeared in Billy Elliott at Signature Theatre, stars opposite her as the wealthy and altruistic Jervis Pendleton. Boehm's additional credits include South Pacific at Olney Theatre Center and Chicago at Keegan Theatre, where he currently serves as Casting Director.

"Daddy Long Legs tells a beautiful love story using only two actors and mostly letters from one character to the other," said Director Michael Windsor, "it's unique and romantic - storytelling at it's finest." Windsor was recently nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for his work directing Monumental Theatre Company's 2018 production of Brooklyn the Musical.

Marika Countouris joins the production as Music Director. "We're thrilled to be working with Caroline Wolfson and Kurt Boehm," said Marika, "Their voices bring Paul Gordon's rich score to life making Daddy Long Legs a must-see."

Monumental Theatre Company will be partnering with the English Department at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, to give students a "behind-the-scenes" look at Daddy Long Legs. "Students will be given unique access to the production," said Managing Director Beth Amann, "We hope our work will help them learn about storytelling through different mediums, and further our mission of nurturing the next generation of theatregoers."

Saira Grewal and Ricky Drummond will understudy the roles of Jerusha and Jervis for this production.

Daddy Long Legs runs from March 7 through March 30, 2019 at the Ainslie Arts Center- located at 3900 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22304. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.monumentaltheatre.org/daddy-long-legs.html.

Monumental Theatre Company was recently nominated for nine Helen Hayes Awards for their 2018 season. In addition to Daddy Long Legs, the 2019 season includes the new children's musical workshop Dress Up Day, the annual Flip Flop Reverse cabaret and the smash hit musical Be More Chill.
