Kennedy Center Institutes 'Sondheim Inspirational Grants' for Teachers
The New York Times reports today that the Kennedy Center will be doling out a series of $10,000 grants each year to "inspirational teachers" courtesy of a grant from MTI's Freddie Gershon and his wife, Myrna.
The Times explains: "The grants, to be called the Kennedy Center/Stephen Sondheim Inspirational Teacher Awards, will be presented each year on Mr. Sondheim's birthday, March 22, to teachers from kindergarten through college levels who are nominated through the Kennedy Center Web site."
Said Sondheim of the honor, ""Good teachers are touchstones to paths of achieving more than we might have otherwise accomplished, in directions we might not have gone."
