Imagination Stage's 2015-16 Fall Semester to Include BIG FISH & More

By:

Imagination Stage is offering new and exciting opportunities this Fall semester, which continue to inspire creativity through theatre arts classes that nurture, challenge, and empower young people of all abilities. The Fall 2015-2016 agenda features Big Fish as the IStage Performance Ensemble production, the Fall Class Sampler, and thrilling new classes beginning as early as September 15.

Registration for the Fall semester is available online at www.imaginationstage.org, over the phone at 301-280-1636, or in-person at our Bethesda location, 4908 Auburn Avenue. Ten-week classes and first session Early Childhood six-week classes begin September 15; second session six-week classes begin October 27.

"We are excited to have offerings that explore creativity, the craft of theater, filmmaking, and dance for ages 12 months to 18 years old," says Joanne Seelig, Director of Education at Imagination Stage. "Whether it is a student's first exposure to creative drama or a student honing one aspect of their technique-there is something for everyone. Our teachers are working practitioners in the field and we are excited to start off the school year with some new offerings including: Creative Drama Circus Stories, Musical Theatre: Matilda and Newsies, and Physical Theatre: Acting Beyond Words."

The FREE Fall Class Sampler on September 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. allows students to experience what taking a class at Imagination Stage is really like. Families will get the opportunity to meet teachers and fellow students, ask questions to the Faculty and Education Staff, and take a sample class. Pre-register online or drop-in to attend.

The upcoming semester schedule features creative classes to engage students of all ages and levels of expertise. Newly themed classes include: You & Me: On the Go and You & Me: Baby Animals (12-36 mos), Adventures with Frog and Toad, Musical Theatre Dance: Lion King, Peter Pan, and More (Gr. K-1), and Musical Theatre: Character Development (Gr. 4-5).

This semester only, students in Grades 6-12 are eligible to audition for the Fall IStage Performance Ensemble. Solely comprised of student actors, this ensemble will bring to life John August's Big Fish. Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest...and then some! Edward's incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him-most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father's epic tales. Students perform on The Lerner Family Theatre stage, the same stage as the professional productions of the 2014-15 Season.
