Forum Theatre Presents CHURCH, Now thru 7/29

By:

Forum Theatre presents CHURCH by Young Jean Lee in the inaugural Over The Line Festival at Round House Silver Spring. Tickets are $15 for all performances ($10 for seniors, groups, and Round House subscribers; $10 for students and patrons under 30). To purchase, visit www.forum-theatre.org or call the Round House box office at 240-644-1100

Acclaimed playwright and director Young Jean Lee transforms her life-long struggle with Christianity into an exuberant church service. Both celebratory and confrontational, Church will test the expectations of religious and non-religious alike -- looking deep into why we believe.

Cast includes Nora Achrati (Les Justes with WSC Avant Bard) Blair Bowers (The Gallerist with Rorschach Theatre), Kevin Hasser (Side Manwith 1st Stage) and Anastasia Wilson  (Swampoodle with Solas Nua).

"As someone raised in an evangelical church and household, I think I am drawn to the subject of faith and belief in the way Young Jean Lee was when she wrote the play.” says Artistic Director and director of CHURCH, Michael Dove, “It's an honest and fair portrayal of Christianity that looks at The Common questions and struggles that we all have--believers and atheists alike. I think it will surprise many and confront and challenge the beliefs of anyone who sees the show."

Creative team includes Set and Sound Designer Michael Dove, Assistant Director Emily Jablonski, Lighting Designer Stephanie P. Freed, Dramaturg Hannah Hessel, Dramaturg Laura Esti Miller and Stage Manager Jenn Carlson.

CHURCH is a part of the inaugural Over The Live Festival. Curated by Round House Theatre, this unique celebration of theatre, music, and dance comes to Round House Silver Spring from July 12 - 29, 2012. Artistic Director Michael Dove stated, “We are immensely thrilled to be part of this festival with these other amazing groups. It’s exciting to have this much happening in Silver Spring and with such a diversity of artists and productions. It will be a festival like none other for the DC area and I and Forum are honored to be a part of it.”
