Ford’s Theatre Society Presents Staged Reading of EMPIRES FALL, 5/1

By:

On Sunday, May 1, at 7 p.m. the Ford's Theatre Society presents a staged reading of "Empires Fall," a new play based on the diplomatic relationship of George H. W. Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev during the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union. Playwright Robert Lawson and former White House Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater have collaborated to create a highly imaginative and historically accurate story that chronicles the events of one of the most tumultuous times in contemporary world history. Using a fascinating mixture of docudrama and fantasy, "Empires Fall" examines the use of diplomacy in challenging and volatile situations. The Kennedy Center's Gregg Henry directs this special one-night event featuring Rick Foucheux ("The Rivalry") as Gorbachev and Marty Lodge as President George H. W. Bush.

Tickets are required and may be reserved in advance in person at the Ford's Theatre Box Office or via Ticketmaster at (800) 982-2787 or ticketmaster.com. Tickets reserved through Ticketmaster are subject to Ticketmaster fees. Tickets are distributed on a first-come basis. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Ford's Theatre Society
Since reopening in 1968, more than a hundred years after President Abraham Lincoln's assassination, Ford's Theatre has celebrated Lincoln's legacy and explored the American experience through theatre and education. Under the leadership of Director Paul R. Tetreault, Ford's Theatre has been recognized for the superior quality of its artistic programming. From the nationally acclaimed "Big River" to the world premieres of "Meet John Doe" and "The Heavens Are Hung In Black," Ford's Theatre is making its mark on the American theatre landscape. For its accomplishment, the organization was honored in 2008 with the National Medal of Arts. For more information, visit www.fords.org.
