Upcoming Events at DC Arts Center- Looking for a break from a cold and dreary winter? Escape this January into artist Adam de Boer's highly anticipated show, Memory Meets Imagination Halfway. His visually idylic work presents an intimate and imaginative exploration of social rituals and emerging sexuality, set in landscapes at once mystical and familiar. Meanwhile Pete Bergen's ever popular Chinese Menu returns for two weekends, bringing to the stage some of DC's best improvisational talents. The Saartjie Project's Deconstructing the Myth of the Booty opens in February, stretching theatrical boundaries through it's depiction of the mysticism and complexies surrounding the black female body. Landless Theater Company closes the month with a great soundtrack in High Fidelity: The Musical, based on Nick Hornby's popular novel about one man's obsession and devotion to great music. Lastly In Your Ear Poetry returns to DCAC with the great avant-garde sound of local poets we've come to expect from DC Poetry.

Fresh off the stage at the Capital Fringe Festival, "Deconstructing the Myth of the Booty" uses visual art and performance art to explore contemporary perceptions of gender, race, and power amidst the backdrop of the tumultuous life of 19th-century Saartjie Baartman, the company's namesake.

Based on the 1995 Nick Hornby novel, High Fidelity: A Musical follows record store owner and obsessive music aficianado Rob Gordon as he struggles to find his way, torn between the pleasures of an extended adolescence and the satisfaction of taking on adult commitments. When his girlfriend unceremoniously dumps him, he looks to his past relationships to find an explanation, examining his own inability to commit. With the help of the music (and musicians) he adores, Rob tries to craft a path that allows him to move forward, while still holding on to the music he loves and the identity it represents. With a soundtrack featuring musical styles ranging from R&B to pop to rock'n'roll, High Fidelity: A Musical, captures the devotion and obsession great popular music can inspire. Featuring music by Tony award winner Tom Kitt, lyrics by Amanda Green and a book written by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire.
