Conn, Green, Partin et al. Lead David Ives' Translation of THE LIAR, 4/6 - 5/23

Casting has been announced for the Shakespeare Theatre Company's production of THE LIAR. The comedy, originally by Corneille, has been adapted by David Ives and will play the Lansburgh Theatre from April 6, 2010 through May 23, 2010.

Dorante is charming, handsome ... and a pathological liar. When he arrives in Paris, Dorante's outlandish tales amaze and convince all who hear them, but for each problem his clever lying solves, it creates two new ones. Will he manage to keep his stories straight, his dupes none the wiser and somehow still get the girl? This joyful French farce bursts onto the stage in Broadway playwright David Ives' sparkling new adaptation. Michael Kahn will direct, bringing his brilliant touch to this one-of-a-kind comedy.

The world premiere of David Ives' translation will feature Christian Conn, Adam Green (Cliton), Erin Partin (Clarice), Miriam Silverman (Lurcrece), Tony Roach (Alcippe), Aubrey Deeker (Philiste), Colleen Delany (Isabelle/Sabine), and David Sabin (Geronte).

David Ives' other works include ALL IN THE TIMES, NEW JERUSALEM, POLISH JOKE, and VENUS IN FUR which is currently playing Off-Broadway.

Ives has called his version of THE LIAR "a translaptation, i.e., a translation with a Heavy Dose of adaptation." Ives said, "one must think as a playwright, not as a translator. One must ask: what is the play underneath the words, what is going on beneath speeches rather than on their surface, who are these characters and what drives them, and finally what is this play actually all about?"
The creative team will include Alexander Dodge (set design), Murell Horton (costume design), Adam Wernick (composer), Martin Desjardins (sound design), and Jeff Croiter (lighting design).
