Brett Abelman's Switch, running June 7th - 23rd at the Logan Fringe Arts Space, will open select show evenings with a short but mighty performance series Beyond The Binary. The Welders -- Washington's only playwrights' collective devoted exclusively to developing and producing new work -- are excited to host a variety of DC artists as an entry into Abelman's comedy about body-swapping, belly laughs, and uncanny sex.

On designated nights, the Beyond the Binary series will start at 8:00 PM followed immediately by the evening's production of Switch. Special guests include burlesque performer Yvonne Oui, movement-based company haus of bambi, actor/writer Moriamo Akibu, burlesque performer Mindi Mimosa, and spoken word performer Harvey Fitz.

Celebrate Pride with The Welders! Drag Queens Buffy Wilde and Desiree Dik will kick off the run at the Press/Opening night Performance on Saturday, June 9 with an event at the Fringe Bar. Starting at 7:15pm, enjoy a pre-play drink and opening-night-only drag show.

In Switch, a burst of DC Pride magic puts young couple, Doug and Leila, in each other's bodies. Can they find inner peace and outer ecstasy before switching back? And will they even want to? A new comedy that explores the boxes we find ourselves in and what happens when we're given the chance to escape.

About the Lead Producing Playwright: Brett Abelman has been making theatre in DC for over a decade now, loves the community and is excited for all the ways it changes and moves. Most recently, he created and directed Play Cupid at Capital Fringe under the banner of New Game Theatre (his fourth original production at the festival). Previously, he conceived and co-devised Balloon Plays at Fringe, and subsequently at the We Are Takoma series. His work includes Curiouser; To The Earth; Attack of the Killer Bugs, the musical; The Water Plays; Prodigal Daughter; over 100 short plays; and others in development, including Will o' the Wisp, a play in verse. His work has been produced, stage-read or workshopped at Spooky Action Theater, Rorschach Theatre, LiveArt DC, Pinky Swear Productions, Nu Sass, Beltway Drama Series, Theater J's 5×5 series, Journeymen Theater Ensemble, the 31 Plays in 31 Days online podcast, Jewish Theater Workshop of Baltimore, DC 1-Minute Play Festival, Page-to-Stage Playwrights' Slam, and with the dearly missed eXtreme eXchange DC.

Brett also acts, works backstage, plays drums, writes features and reviews for dctheatrescene.com, and, for his day job, works as a professional organizer (ableorganizingdc.com). Finally, he blogs his own thoughts and things at babelwright.wordpress.com.
