Actor's Express Launches NNPN Rolling World Premiere Of REYKJAVÍK By Steve Yockey

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 84th Rolling World Premiere (RWP): Reykjavík by Steve Yockey. The Roll has begun at Core Member Theater Actor's Express (playing through November 18, 2018 in Atlanta), followed by Rorschach Theatre (February 8-March 3, 2019 in Washington, DC), Kitchen Dog Theater (June 6-30, 2019 in Dallas) and Southern Rep (October 2-20, 2019 in New Orleans).

In an NNPN Rolling World Premiere, the Network provides production support to the playwright and the partnering theaters, including assistance with the creation and the contracting of the premiere agreement, collaborative interactions between the theaters, and travel and housing funds for the playwright to further develop the play in each city.

Reykjavík is a series of interconnected vignettes featuring tourists mixing with the (sometimes supernatural) Icelandic locals. We eavesdrop on the private lives of lovers, hospitality workers, party goers, and even a really handsome bird or two. This play is a glimpse into a magical, dark, and sometimes violent world where everyone is still hoping to find love and joy beneath the glow of the Northern Lights.

Steve Yockey is a Los Angeles based writer with work produced throughout the US, Europe, and Asia. His plays Bellwether, Pluto, Afterlife, Octopus, Large Animal Games, CARTOON,?Subculture, Very Still & Hard to See, The Fisherman's Wife, Wolves, Disassembly, and Niagara Falls & Other Plays are published and licensed by Samuel French. Additionally, his play Joshua Consumed an Unfortunate Pear (commissioned by Miami's City Theatre) was included in the 2015 Humana Festival of New American Plays and the subsequent anthology. This season, his new play Reykjavík will open as an NNPN Rolling World Premiere at Actor's Express (Atlanta, GA), Rorschach (Washington, DC), Kitchen Dog Theatre (Dallas, TX), and Southern Rep (New Orleans, LA). Other plays include Blackberry Winter, The Thrush & The Woodpecker, and Mercury. He holds an MFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and currently serves as a writer/producer for the television series Supernatural.

Actor's Express challenges and reflects contemporary human experiences in an inclusive environment. They seek to jumpstart individual transformations through the shared adventure of live performances, which range from daringly provocative to audaciously hilarious. Founded in 1988, The Express has proven itself the most adventurous producing theater in Atlanta, with work that creates emotional connections between audience and artist, catalyzing discussion on the complex issues of the contemporary human experience. actors-express.com ABOUT NNPN
