The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, two fathers and a wall. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart, and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo’s words that “without a hurt, the heart is hollow”.
The famous score, which includes the classics Try To Remember,They Were You and Soon It’s Gonna Rain, is as timeless as the story itself.
Cast in the roles of the boy and girl are Ryan Mangan (last seen in the Players’ production of “She Loves Me”) and Sarah Solari (who has performed many times on the Dorset Stage). Jonathan White will take on the role of El Gallo, the narrator. Jonathan is new to the Players this year. This will be his third production this season. The two fathers are played by Tom Ferguson (last seen in “I Am My Own Wife”) and Dan Silver (Kris Kringle in “Miracle on 34th Street”). Tom and Dan are old school buddies and are thrilled to be doing this show together. Rounding out the cast are Lawrence Zupan and his son, Zachary Zupan as the old actor and the man who dies. Both father and son have graced the Players’ stage in many a performance. And finally, Martha Jo Perkins as the wall/mute. Martha Jo was last seen as Aunt Penniman in “The Heiress”.
