The Waterbury Festival Playhouse, home to professional theater in Central Vermont, in Waterbury Center, presents "The Underpants", written by Carl Sternheim and adapted by Steve Martin.

The renowned comic actor and author of Picasso at the Lapine Agile provides a wild satire adapted from the classic German play about Louise and Theo Maske, a couple whose conservative existence is shattered when Louise's bloomers fall down in public. Though she pulls them up quickly, he thinks the
incident will cost him his job as a government clerk. Louise's momentary display does not result in the feared scandal but it does attract two infatuated men, each of whom wants to rent the spare room in the Maskes' home. Oblivious of their amorous objectives, Theo splits the room between them, happy to collect rent from both the foppish poet and the whiny hypochondriac.

George Pierce, directs a cast filled with veteran WFP comic actors, and welcomes newcomer, Tatiana Galliher Jackson in the role of Louise. Ethan Alsruhe, plays her controlling, set in his ways husband, Theo. Comic relief is provided by Chris Demars and Vince Rossano as the two boarders obsessed with Louise's underpants. Ramona Godfrey plays the nosy upstairs neighbor intent on helping Louise to find romance. Bob Carmody rounds out the cast as Klingelhoff, a deadpan, older gentleman, also looking to rent a room from the Maskes.
