Middlebury's Town Hall Theater once again offers classes in the performing arts to people of all ages and abilities.

"The Byers Studio on the lower level of the theater is busy from morning till night with classes," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "I've always thought that THT is not just about watching performances, but should give everyone a chance to be performers themselves, to find the actor or dancer inside."

New this year is an adult acting class taught by Melissa Lourie, artistic director of the Middlebury Actors Workshop and a theater instructor at UVM. Margo Whitcomb, who taught the very successful summer theater workshop, offers a creative dramatics class specifically for very young performers, grades 1-3.

Returning instructors include Patty Smith (dance) and Simbo Camara (African dance and drumming). Christopher Kiely once again offers his morning sessions of Tai Chi Chuan.

The instructors are local professionals. "This is another way that THT can support local performers," says Anderson. "We keep a small rental fee, but most of the fees go directly to the teachers."

To enroll in a course, contract the teacher directly. For more information, call the Town Hall Theater offices at 388-1436.
