Sandglass' Puppets in the Green Mountains Fest Continues With SLEEPING BEAUTY

Puppeteer Colette Garrigan weaves a passionate account about the loss of innocence. More of a nightmare than a fairytale, this shadow puppet performance follows a young girl from a poor family in Liverpool, England. Her father dies; she is farmed out to her grandmother; she steals and thinks it's exciting to be going in a police car; she meets boys who lead her astray-all the while knowing she is a princess and that somehow prince charming will arrive.

Garrigan, born in Liverpool and based in Normandy, creates the shadow puppets by using her own shadow combined with various unusual objects. Forks become a forest, a toaster rack a shopping center-all projected onto a white semi- transparent screen, accompanied by stream-of-consciousness narration as she literally races and jumps across the stage.

Created by Colette Garrigan with France's La Cie. Akselere,
this production arrives in the U.S. after an acclaimed international tour.
