For years he's accompanied singers, played for musicals and revues, and has tickled the ivories at area cocktail parties and receptions. Finally, Fred Barnes gets his own night in the spotlight, when Town Hall Theater presents Fred Barnes and Company on Friday, January 8.

Middlebury's swinging pianist has played all over the world. He polished his keyboard skills while working as a bricklayer for 38 years, sometimes literally falling asleep at the piano after long days on the job.

Barnes stresses that jazz improvisation is an on-going learning process. "I always say, if I live to be 120 years I might become the player I want to be."
The evening of show tunes and jazz standards will include some of the finest talents in the area. Bill Carmichael - a regular collaborator with Barnes - spent several decades performing in Broadway musicals, most recently Mama Mia! Sarah Stone and Cathy Walsh have starred in numerous musicals. David Gusakov, known for his wide range of styles on the violin, and bassist Will Patton will sit in as well.

The Friday, January 8 show begins at 8pm. Tickets are $10, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, by calling 802 382-9222, in person at the THT Box Office (Monday-Saturday, noon-5 pm), or at the door.
