Dorset Theatre Festival will start off their 2013 Season with the biting hit comedy The Scene by Theresa Rebeck. Theresa Rebeck, a DTF Writer in Residence, is well known for her recent Broadway hits - Seminar starring Alan Rickman and Dead Accounts starring Katie Holmes - as well has her popular NBC Series Smash.

"The Scene is a sharp comedy, full of Theresa's wickedly scathing observations about the sort of self-obsessed New Yorkers who pursue their own interests at the cost of their morality and loyalty. Theresa has been re-writing for this production, so the play our audiences will witness will have never been seen before. That is super exciting and one of the reasons we were able to attract such a stellar cast," says Dina Janis, DTF Artistic Director.

The Scene will be directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt, Artistic Director of the NY based theatre company Colt Coeur, whose recent directing credits include Reunion at Southcoast Rep Pacific Playwrights Festival and Everything is Ours at Chautauqua. The design team includes John McDermott (Scenic design), Kaye Voyce (Costume design), Michael Giannitti (Lighting design) and M.L. Dogg (Sound design).

The star-studded cast includes Tim Daly, whose television credits include Wings, The Sopranos, and Private Practice and who has performed on Broadway in Coastal Disturbances and The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. Also starring are: Geoffrey Arend, star of the ABC drama Body of Proof and the Mark Webb film 500 Days of Summer, who has been seen on the NY stage in The American Pilot at Manhattan Theatre Club and Mother Courage and her Children at The Public; Mary Bacon, whose Broadway credits include Rock N' Roll and Arcadia, familiar to local audiences for her DTF roles in Mauritius and The Novelist; and Carolyn Holding who has performed in As You Like It and Dracula at Chatauqua, as well as at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

DTF is pleased to present another play by Rebeck, who has become a favorite of local audiences, and to renew its longstanding commitment to producing new and challenging work by current playwrights. The Scene opens on Wednesday, June 19th, running through July 7th.
