Days after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, a Mercy Corps emergency response team arrived in Port-au-Prince to mount a comprehensive response. The agency has a long track record of helping people in the world's hardest places recover from natural disasters and conflict, having aided families after earthquakes in Peru in 2007, China and Pakistan in 2008, and Indonesia last year.

Local people can help Mercy Corps do this important work, and have a great evening out, by attending the Haiti Earthquake Benefit at Town Hall Theater on Friday, February 26.

The benefit, organized by Bob Turdek of Lincoln, will feature two popular bands - Atlantic Crossing and Gumbo Yah Yah. Caller Lausanne Allen will be on hand to lead everyone in contra dancing. (Beginners welcome.)

"Lausanne has a gift for getting everybody up on the floor and calling dances that everyone can enjoy," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "When she comes here we always know that everyone will have a great time."

The event will be held on Friday, February 26, at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater. 7:30 pm. The suggested donation for the evening is $16. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, call Bob Turdek at 453-3920.
