Experience a site-specific, outdoor performance at Pacific Theatre.

Port Moody's Rebel Haunt Theatre partners with Stone's Throw Productions to present "Match Girl", a new play by Sarah Dixon. Based on Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Match Girl", the show will be performed outside of Pacific Theatre this Holiday Season, Dec 5, 11, 18, 2015.

The story was first published in 1845 and tells the tale of a young girl selling matches in her bare-feet on a cold New Year's Eve. The audience will follow 6 Match Girls through several scenes taking place outside Pacific Theatre's Heritage building. There will be live-music, as well as an opportunity to enjoy some hot beverages after the show.

Director Sarah Dixon comments on the inclusive experience audiences get when they see the show. "It's not just an intellectual and emotional experience- it's quite visceral," she says. "It's about a connection to the darkest, coldest time of year. We are outside in the night creating community even when it's cold outside."

The play was originally performed in partnership with the Port Moody Arts Centre in 2010 and now makes use of the unique features around Pacific Theatre. A host guides the audience from station to station as each of 6 different actors brings to life a single stage in the Match Girls journey. In keeping with Rebel Haunt Theatre's tradition of micro-epic performances, the show is only 20 minutes long.

"It's the celebration of the strength and the vulnerability of human beings and the human heart- and that funny thing how in the saddest possible moment there can also be great comfort and joy," says Dixon.

Artistic Team: Directed by Sarah Dixon. Featuring Julia Siedlanowska, Sarah Roa, Carolyn Nakagawa, Andrea Ashton, Mistaya Kryder-Wu, Kaitlyn Pederson, Kimmie Kidd. Live Music by Andrew Hartline, Richard Dixon. Original Song by Sarah Dixon. Produced by Julia Siedlanowska.
