Quest University Canada Now Accepting Artist-in-Residence Applications

By:

Quest University Canada is inviting applications for its new artist-in-residence program. These short-term positions are open to artists in any discipline, including, but not limited to; visual art, dramatic art, creative writing, dance and music. The artists-in-residence will offer courses in their craft and on the creative process, providing students with opportunities to develop their creative and artistic skills. Additionally, the artists will share their own work with the University and the surrounding community through installations, exhibitions, and events.

"Expanding our offerings in the arts through this new program is part of our continuing effort to develop the full potential of all our students," says Dr. David Helfand, Quest's President and Vice Chancellor. "It's also another way of connecting with the Sea-to-Sky community."

The resident artists will come to Quest for either 6 or 12 weeks between September and April, teaching one or two courses respectively. The remainder of the time is dedicated to the support and practice of both the artists' and students' work, which may include open studio sessions, performance/exhibition of the artist's work, and other activities. Quest offers visiting tutor status, accommodation, and compensation for the entire residence period.

Quest is located in scenic Squamish, BC, approximately one hour from Vancouver. All Quest classes are limited to a maximum of 20 students, and take place on the "block plan," wherein students take one course at a time over three and a half weeks, meeting a minimum of three hours a day. Quest therefore welcomes artists who are keen on working intensely with students with wide-ranging academic interests.

Prospective applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a statement of artistic and teaching philosophies, including a description of potential courses, and digital files or links to recent artistic work to: arts@questu.ca. They are asked to include a preference of one or two courses, as well as possible available dates (the Block calendar can be found at: Academic Term Schedule 2013 - 2014 [PDF, 54 KB]). Preference is given to artists who can speak about the relationship of the arts to other disciplines. Screening of applications is ongoing.

About Quest University Canada Quest University Canada, the country's first independent, not-for-profit, secular university opened its doors in September 2007 in Squamish, British Columbia. Quest's simple philosophy is that education, in its truest sense, comes not from providing the right answers, but from learning how to ask insightful questions. This philosophy has driven the development of a campus and a curriculum focused on producing broadly educated individuals with an informed perspective on the problems of the twenty-first century, and the integrative abilities to address them.
