Evolution-Feminism-Comedy Comes to Northern Light Theatre
"No book, no paper, no learned tome I had ever dug through during my dusty days as a student of archaeology had made mention of this. They said... 'Man discovered fire.' Man." EDMONTON- Evolution, feminism and comedy come together in Bryony Lavery's quirky ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES.
Ardent archaeologist Molly unexpectedly finds a four-million-year old female body in the Olduvai Gorge. Upon kissing her lips the four million year old woman comes to life. Molly smuggles the woman back to England and names her Victoria, after Molly's grandmother. They spend New Year's Eve together, where Molly tries to teach Victoria what it means to be a woman in the 21st Century, while she in turn learns much more than she ever could have expected.

"Despite popular theory, NLT is proud to dig up proof that women did all the heavy lifting 4 million years ago. The beginning of (wo)mankind!"
Featuring Holly Turner as Molly, last seen in NLT's Production of THE TESTAMENT OF MARY, and Kristin Johnson as Victoria in her NLT debut.
Directed by Trevor Schmidt, the creative team includes Assistant Director Anne Marie Szucs; Lighting Designer Elise Jason; Sound Designer Kiidra Duhault; Stage Manager Elizabeth Allison; Production Manager Tyler Herman; Artistic Associate Jake Tkaczyk.
Northern Light Theatre values their position on the far end of the spectrum within the local theatre ecology, feeling they fill a unique role as an outspoken, purposefully-controversial, and boundary-pushing company. NLT is known for mixing new Canadian works with obscure international gems filled with brave and emotionally-driven content.
