Set in September 1934, the action unfolds backstage at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company on the most important night of its season. World-famous tenor Tito Merelli — "Il Stupendo" himself — is scheduled to star in Pagliacci, and General Manager Henry Saunders is determined that nothing goes wrong.

What follows is a whirlwind of slamming doors, frantic disguises, romantic entanglements, and near-misses.

Add an ambitious diva, a flirtatious opera guild chairwoman, a giddy girlfriend, and a meddling bellhop, and the result is pure theatrical pandemonium.
