Continuing our new 2017 season, Above The Stag Theatre presents the UK Premiere Southern Baptist Sissies by Del Shores, directed by Gene David Kirk (Party, Haram Iran, The Sum of Us) from 8 March.

Southern Baptist Sissies is the unforgettable story of four boys growing up gay in a religious community in Dallas, Texas.

Del Shores' hilarious, wildly imaginative and moving play follows their lives from eight years old to adulthood as they veer between friendship, sex and estrangement.

Southern Baptist Sissies was released as a film in 2013 starring comedian Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace, My Life Down The Pink Carpet) and Willam Belli (RuPaul's Drag Race, Sex & the City). The play also won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding LA Theater Production, as well as multiple LA Weekly Theater Awards, Los Angeles Critics Awards, Ovation Awards, BackStage West Garland Awards and Robby Awards. As well as several successful plays, Shores has written for TV series including Queer As Folk.
