Cambridge Arts Theatre has announced that chart-topping legend Tony Christie will lead the cast of its 2017 family pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, in the role of The King...of Amarillo!

Most famous for his Number One hit single 'Is This The Way to Amarillo', Tony has had a long and successful music career including top 10 hits 'I Did What I Did for Maria' and 'Avenues and Alleyways' as well as a celebrated West End performance in Dreamboats and Petticoats in 2010.

Tony is joined by acclaimed actress Liza Goddard, who brings her sparkle and charm to help the hero on his adventures as the Good Fairy. Liza is much loved for her roles as the glamourous jewel thief Philippa Vale in Bergerac, Mrs Jessop in Woof! and Clarissa 'Clancy' Merrick in Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, as well as numerous stage roles.

Stephen Beckett returns to Cambridge for his fourth role as the pantomime baddie to play the evil and cunning Fleshcreep, after his roles as Abanazar in Aladdin (2014), the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood (2013) and Squire Nastee in Jack and the Beanstalk (2012). Stephen is best known for his television roles in The Bill and Coronation Street and extensive stage experience including the acclaimed West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

They join Cambridge's #1 pantomime dame, the hilarious Matt Crosby as Dame Trott in his twelfth pantomime at the Arts Theatre, Holly Easterbrook (Dick Whittington) as our hero Jack Trott, Robert Rees (Dick Whittington) as Simon Trott and Alexandra Waite-Roberts as the Princess, alongside an all-singing, all-dancing ensemble of professional dancers and 20 talented local children aged 9 - 13.

Jack and the Beanstalk is directed by Carole Todd, who returns after her successful Arts Theatre debut last year with Dick Whittington. A highly experienced director and choreographer, she has worked on musicals in the West End and beyond, including Dreamboats and Petticoats and Jesus Christ Superstar. Carole has over 30 years' experience directing and choreographing pantomimes, working with high profile stars from Rosemary Ford to Wayne Sleep, spending 8 years directing pantomime at the Birmingham Hippodrome.

The biggest and best Christmas show in town, presented with the Arts Theatre's trademark blend of singalong tunes, spectacular dance routines, dazzling costumes and classic panto jokes, Jack and the Beanstalk opens on Thursday 30 November 2017 and runs until Sunday 7 January 2018.
