Tom Marshman Presents KINGS CROSS (REMIX)

By:

Inspired by the lyrics to the iconic Pet Shop Boys song and developed from discussions over tea and recorded interviews, performance artist Tom Marshman uses deft gesture, voice, movement and costume to recreate the LGBTQ scene in Kings Cross in the 1980s. This now renovated and gentrified area that was once a riotous alternative to the West End.

Woven together from the stories of people who experienced it first hand and drawing on the music of the era, Tom's show celebrates a raucous time in the life of central London where sexuality was for exploring, HIV was causing tragedy long before medication was available, support groups for LGBT people like Gay Switchboard were emerging, rights were being fought for (including the overturning of Clause 28) and hard partying culture was a playground for identity and expression.

Following performances in Exeter, Bristol and Brighton, Kings Cross (Remix) comes to Camden People's Theatre, a short distance from Kings Cross itself, for its first full London run with new stories that include trans narratives from this moment in London's LGBTQ history.

Speaking about the production, Tom Marshman said "I've wanted as diverse a range of stories and for the new tour of the show, I've tried to have more elements of the LGBTQ community are better represented. It is exciting that the show can evolve in this way."

Tom Marshman is a performance artist who transforms everyday accounts into theatre by weaving together stories worth telling. He has created over 20 projects over the last ten years in a wide range of mediums including performance, photography, installation, publication and film.
