Cardiff's pub theatre The Other Room, is once again throwing open its doors to the theatre makers of tomorrow with its fifth Young Artists Festival, which will run 08 - 13 April.

Following the success and sell out performances of last year's festival, The Other Room are now inviting applications from new and emerging actors, directors, writers and stage managers for this year's festival. Successful applicants will benefit from a week long programme of workshops, masterclasses, mentorship and professional support from key figures in the industry including playwright Meredydd Barker, Director Simon Harris, Simon Curtis from Equity, Maggie Dunning from Arts Council of Wales and a casting Q&A with Nicola Reynolds and Mawgaine Tarrant-Cornish. Additionally, Artistic Director Dan Jones and Executive Director Bizzy Day will be on hand to share their expertise throughout the week. Topics covered will include fundraising, diversity in the arts, working with industry unions, creating a company and professional production management.

The week will culminate in the formation of six new companies assembled to produce, direct and perform six brand new ten-minute plays specially commissioned from six British playwrights by The Other Room for the festival. The writers are Brad Birch, Isley Lynn, Roger Williams, Lisa Parry, Owen Thomas and Nerida Bradley. The young writers attached to each company will also write a ten-minute play in response to their experiences over the week and these will be performed on the Saturday afternoon as a series of readings.

The Other Room's Associate Producer Claire Bottomley comments:

"My first week at The Other Room coincided with YAF 2018, when I was plunged into the energy and excitement of having a group of creative people all working, learning and exploring new work together. I'm so excited to be producing YAF 2019 and working with so many talented emerging and established artists across all areas of producing excellent and cutting-edge theatre. I know that the frenetic week will culminate in high quality, innovative and exciting work."

Applications for The Other Room's Young Artists Festival 2019 are now open until midday on 10th February. For details on how to apply please visit the 'get involved' page at www.otherroomtheatre.com
