THE WOMEN OF KAMPALA Coming to Greenwich Theatre

Five well-known Ugandan female singers are taking to the stage at Greenwich Theatre to celebrate Black History Month this month.

The Women of Kampala will be presented by the multifaceted Global Fusion Music and Arts group on Wednesday, October 14, at 7.30pm.

The singers - Milly Namuksa, Essence Kasozi, Barbara Wamala, Sarah Ndagire and Rachel Nabudde - have many albums to their names, but their styles are very different, ranging from Congolese dance music to deeply traditional Ugandan music. They will be backed by afro-soul guitarist, producer and vocalist Eben Oke and the Yoruba Soul-Jazz for an evening of new music and rich East African rhythms.

In the interval in the bar there will be an acoustic performance by visiting Botswana artist Masego Woki and her husband Aubrie Woki. Masego will be performing songs from her new album released on the Global Fusion Music & Arts record label.

Global Fusion already have links with Greenwich Theatre after the theatre's executive and artistic director, James Haddrell, worked as artistic adviser to their production of 'All About The Boys', a play about the First World War, at Charlton House earlier this year.

James Haddrell said of The Women of Kampala: "The event marks a new stage in the partnership with Global Fusion. "Global Fusion have convinced us that the borough does deserve a growing profile for community performances and drama.

"We are also working together to raise money for their new community play called The Canaries about women who worked at the Woolwich Arsenal during the First World War."
