THE MARLOWE Theatre pantomime Dick Whittington has won a top industry award.

It was named Pantomime of the Year 2016/17 (750-1500 seats) at the GB Pantomime Awards. The event was held at the Theatre Cafe, Shaftsbury Avenue, last night (Sunday) and hosted by Christopher Biggins.

Dick Whittington, which starred TV presenter Stephen Mulhern, was co-produced by the Canterbury venue and Evolution Productions, run by Paul Hendy and Emily Wood.

Paul, who also wrote and directed the show, was at the ceremony to receive the award. Another Evolution pantomime, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs at the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield, was also nominated. Paul said: "It's a genuine pleasure to produce the pantomime at The Marlowe and it's a wonderful team effort.

"Over the years, we have built a reputation for strong casting, high production values and genuinely funny shows. The Marlowe Theatre is undoubtably one of the best theatres in the country and we are absolutely thrilled that the pantomime has been recognised with this national award. Our aim is to make this year's production of Peter Pan even more spectacular!"
