The Point, Eastleigh presents SONG OF THE GOAT THEATRE'S MACBETH UK Tour 2010

Acclaimed Polish theatre company Song of the Goat Theatre announces its first ever UK tour with a new production of Macbeth, beginning on October 6th, 2010 at the Point, Eastleigh.

Beginning its life during the RSC's complete works season in Stratford upon Avon and created over two years, this ground-breaking production of Macbeth re-imagines Shakespeare's tale of murder and madness through an intricately crafted combination of text, movement and polyphonic song.

The powerful new production will begin a national tour at the Point in Eastleigh on October 6th, 2010, before dates in Birmingham, Cambridge, Manchester, London and Brighton.

Presented by an international ensemble of eight extraordinary performers, the production explores the musicality and muscularity of Shakespeare's poetry and the colours and sounds of his extraordinary language. The story is there, the characters are there, but in witnessing the drama realised through a uniquely imaginative physical and vocal language we understand the story anew.

Hailed as the most innovative and exciting of the new avant-garde theatre movement in Poland, Song of the Goat theatre was founded in 1996 by Grzegorz Bral and Anna Zubrzycki, leading members of the internationally renowned Gardzienice Theatre Association. Since 2002 the company has toured worldwide from its base in the refectory of a 14th century monastery in Wroc?aw, where it also leads intensive workshops attracting students from across the globe. With an ensemble drawn from the UK, Sweden, Finland and France as well as Poland the company enjoyed two award-winning runs at Edinburgh in 2004 and 2006, leading to a host of international invitations including New York, Sydney and London seasons. Its performance "Chronicles - a lamentation" won the Best International Show Edinburgh 2004, the Scotsman Fringe First, the Herald Angel at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2004 and the Grand Prix at Poland's prestigious Festival of Acting in Kalisz in 2003. Song of the Goat Theatre performed for the Dalai Lama during his visit to Wroc?aw in December 2008.

This production forms part of the legacy of the hugely successful POLSKA! YEAR programme, which presented an extensive range of Polish cultural events in 2009 and 2010.

Performed in English. Duration 75 minutes with no interval. Suitable for ages 14+.
