Soho Theatre to Host TOUCHED LIKE A VIRGIN, May 22 - June 9, London

By:

Sadie Frost returns to the stage for a limited three week run at Soho Theatre of Zoe Lewis's follow up one-woman play TOUCHED…LIKE A VIRGIN; opening for previews on Tuesday 22 May.

In 1984 Lesley, an ordinary lass from Manchester is 'Touched for the very first time' by Madonna. Thus begins a lifelong love affair until the world's biggest pop star gets married and ditches the pointy bra in favour of twinsets and pearls. Lesley feels betrayed and the clock is ticking. What if, when you are ready to settle down, you find you've left it too late? Zoe Lewis takes a gut wrenching look at the thirty-something dilemma. Expect pop classics, IVF and tears in this riotously funny and wry look at modern womanhood.

TOUCHED…LIKE A VIRGIN completes Lesley's journey from a 14 year old virgin in Touched For The Very First Time (Trafalgar Studios 2009) to Like A Virgin – a brand new play featuring Lesley as a 38 year old stuck in the modern crisis, single, no kids, clock ticking. Zoe Lewis has blended the old and the new material together, in a new musical transformation, with pianist and cabaret singer.

Sadie Frost made her theatre debut in Nicholas Hytner's Mumbo Jumbo at the Royal Exchange Manchester before starring in various films including Dracula, Shopping, An Ideal Husband and Love, Honour and Obey. She won praise for her return to the stage in Touched and also for her role as Lady Anne in Richard III at the Riverside Studios.

James Phillips directs, following his critically acclaimed shows including Rubenstein Kiss at Hampstead Theatre starring Samantha Bond, Will Keen and Alan Cox and Frankie and Johnny at the Claire de Lune at the Sound Theatre, Leicester Square. As an assistant director he has worked at the Almeida with Michael Attenborough and at the Royal Exchange, Manchester for Marianne Elliot. He was associate director of Caird Company new writing seasons Playing Soldiers and the New Writing Fortnight. His production of Macbeth toured Japan and played for the Japanese Royal Family at The Globe Theatre in Tokyo. James is adapting the Hilary Mantel novel A Place of Greater Safety for television and his script The Russian House is being produced as a Coming Up 2012 film for Channel 4.
