NYMT Presents Original Musical, Plus SWEET CHARITY and PENDRAGON

This summer the NYMT is presenting three major productions, including a new commission from the exciting young musical theatre writing partnership, Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary.

Amid a backstage drama of teenage hormones and parental pressure, five finalists gather to compete to be Britain's best new classical music star. With a live televised final looming, emotions are running high. From bitter vendettas to unexpected romance, which of our competitors will rise to the top? After all, "there can only be one winner...".

A brand new British musical from the writing team behind The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole.

Jake and Pippa met at Bristol University, where they were studying Drama and Music respectively. Their stage musical adaptation of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 ¾ opened to critical acclaim in March 2015 at Leicester Curve. Their musicals together include: Jet Set Go! (Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Theatre 503 and Jermyn Street Theatre; licensed by Josef Weinberger Ltd), The Great British Soap Opera (Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Jermyn Street Theatre) and Red Riding Hood (Singapore Repertory Theatre). They also wrote the music and lyrics for the 2013 Rose Theatre Kingston Christmas show, The Snow Gorilla, a song for A Song Cycle for Soho at Soho Theatre and the opening song for the 2014 West End Bares. In 2013 Pippa won the Arts Foundation Fellowship for Musical Theatre Composition.

Widely known and loved in Bob Fosse's electrifying film adaptation starring Shirley MacLaine, Sweet Charity is a tender and comical look at the adventures and misadventures in the ways of love encountered by the gullible and guileless Charity Hope Valentine, who always gives her heart and her dreams to the wrong man. Wonderful songs, matched with pulsating choreography, include Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now, Too Many Tomorrows, The Rhythm of Life and There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This.
