Hole in My Pocket Announce THE WORLD IS VERY BIG & YOU ARE VERY SMALL for April 2 - May 31, Glasgow

By:

Hole In My Pocket present THE WORLD IS VERY BIG AND YOU ARE VERY SMALL, ACT ACCORDINGLY a humorous and thought provoking exhibition, performance and culinary experience from Monday 2nd April – Thursday 31st May 2012 which is focused around time and attempting to understand the concept of the moment when viewed against the history of the universe. In other words, when something happens, it's gone. There is no present, only the past. How can we comprehend this concept?

Part of Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art and the Behaviour festival of live performance, HIMP present this foyer exhibition and installation spanning the foyer, cafe bar and restaurant of the Arches as well as a basement space. For the restaurant installation, expect plenty of bright colour as well as alarm clock related games, philosophies and phrases concerning time and huge neon clock bars which light in a clockwise fashion above the bar area. They also hope to create a time capsule of the evening: recording the meeting of two people by taking a photograph, sending people along to try out the HIMP chessboard installation (which will be in our basement room B12) and introducing people to each other. Materials from the makeover meal will go into an envelope for each person which will be posted on in ten years. The foyer exhibition will feature a timeline from the start to the end of the universe with the present moment resting in the arches. It will also feature a projection with a link to search engine queries, randomly throwing up the many weird and wonderful words and phrases people have been researching.

The duo will also curate two special performances on Saturday 21st and Thursday 26th April 2012 as part of the Arches restaurant makeover series, with theatre maker Gary McNair as the 'Director of Time' presenting a series of talks on the concept of time-anxiety as diners enjoy a time-themed three-course menu. For full details of the time-themed three course makeover menu (priced £9.95) visit the Arches restaurant page on the website at: www.thearches.co.uk/cafe-bar-restaurant.
