FLEABAG Coming to Birmingham Rep in January
The multi-award winning production of Fleabag from DryWrite and Soho Theatre comes to Birmingham Repertory Theatre from Wednesday 14 January to Saturday 17 January as part of a UK tour.
Since its first work in progress at Soho Theatre, the writer of Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been announced as joint winner of the Critics' Circle Most Promising Playwright 2013, alongside Rory Kinnear; won the Stage Best Solo Performer 2013 as well as two Off West End Awards for Most Promising New Playwright and Best Female Performance. Waller-Bridge has also been nominated for an Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright and an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre.
The play has been awarded a special commendation from the coveted Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, awarded annually to recognise women from around the world who have written works of outstanding quality in English-speaking theatre.
The naughty sharp-edged and funny production is directed by Vicky Jones, whose critically-acclaimed play The One won the 2013 Verity Bargate Award for best new play.
In Fleabag the rules are out the window and she's getting confused. She's angry, pervy, confrontational, cruel, forgetful, flippant, capricious, but undeniably honest. For one hour, Fleabag lets us see the world through her eyes as we follow her life, love, loss and heartbreak. This is comedy storytelling at its very best with all the unspoken nitty-gritty of real life. This is the portrait of a girl who isn't afraid to admit what she thinks is wrong with her.
