Extra Week Added to Brighton Fringe 2013

By:

Brighton Fringe 2013 promises to be the biggest and best yet. For the first time ever, the largest arts festival in England will run for an extra week, incorporating the May half-term and both bank holidays. Throughout May, Brighton is transformed into a hive of artistic excitement. Every pub, club, open space and street corner is buzzing with activity. From theatre to dance, comedy to music, visual art to literary events and high flying installations, the city bursts with a cornucopia of culture throughout the day and long into the spring evenings for what is always a highlight in the UK's arts calendar. And true to Brighton's slightly rebellious nature there will be plenty of surprises that could only happen in Britain's favourite seaside city.

2013 will see even more venues, more audiences and more shows as well as a significantly expanded youth and kids programme. Audience numbers for Brighton Fringe 2012 increased by 14.5% to a massive 206,000, and look set to increase yet further. With Citroën as the headline sponsor for the second consecutive year, Brighton Fringe 2012 had a stunning line-up encompassing 743 events, housed in 192 venues across the city, an array of site-specific work and over 170 free events.

Registration is open for the completely open access festival until February 4th. Tickets will go on sale on 27th February with the printed brochure hitting the streets mid-March.

Julian Caddy, Managing director of Brighton Fringe says: "Brighton Fringe should appeal to all ages and backgrounds, so it seems a logical step in its development to also include the half-term break, giving performers, producers and artists the platform to offer even more to the family and youth audience whilst also reaching, and further contributing to, the influx of visitors to the city in that period."
