Elysion Productions Presents DEV'S ARMY at Kings Arms in Salford, May 30-June 2

By:

Award winning play Dev's Army makes a welcome return following a hugely successful premiere 2011 tour. The intriguing dark comedy by established writer Stuart Lee will be showing at Kings Arms, Salford from 30 May until 2 June.

A charming, thought provoking Irish comedy, the story is set in 1940 when the Republic of Ireland remained neutral in WW2. Through the lives of three normal men, caught up in the wretched drama that was Ireland's attempt to defend its shores, their prejudices are challenged. The subtleties of Irish allegiances are explored when the local defence volunteers discover 'a body on the beach' - nothing is as black and white as we think when it's coloured green!

The beautifully written script focuses on the relationship between the characters who are brought to life by a talented cast of local actors; Richard Sails, Matt Lanigan, Daniel McClelland and Wayne Allsop.

Produced by Elysion Productions in association with Studio Salford, and directed by James Foster, Dev's Army won Best New Writing at Buxton Fringe Festival as well as receiving a nomination for Best Production and Richard Sails for Best Actor. It achieved the Forever Manchester Award at the Not Part Of Festival.

Dev's Army is Stuart Lee's seventh play and was shortlisted twice in 2010 for the Oxford Playhouse New Writing Competition, and the Drama Association of Wales Playwriting Competition. It then was one of two winners of the Galway Theatre Festival New Writing Competition - through which it received a rehearsed reading. StuArt Started writing plays 11 years ago, his first venture ('The Ghosts May Laugh' - a series of short ghost stories set in the trenches of WW1) toured Oxford and Edinburgh. Since then he has written several award winning plays and is an active member of the Oxford Playwrights group.

Dev's Army will be playing at Kings Arms, Salford from Wednesday 30 May until Saturday 2 June. Tickets costing £7 and £5 are available from www.elysionproduction.co.uk and www.ticketweb.co.uk.
