Canada Water Culture Space Sets Spring Lineup

By:

Canada Water Culture Space is an intimate theatre tucked away behind the bookshelves of the Canada Water Library. Curated by the Albany, South East London's leading arts centre, this Spring Canada Water Culture Space presents a season bursting with theatre, comedy, music, and great family shows.

Spring includes a range of artists who demonstrate that music is something to be played and experimented with, opening with Drifters (Thursday 12 February, 7.30pm), the dramatic tale of the North Sea's herring fishermen as they go through their daily struggles, accompanied by a live beat boxing score, performed by vocal sculptor, Jason Singh.

The indefatigable Yve Blake celebrates those strange people that we used to be in THEN (Friday 10 April, 7.30pm), based on hundreds of collected histories, creating a bonanza of storytelling, music, and lots of dance breaks. In Projections of: Miles (Saturday 16 May, 7.45pm) an all-star line up of jazz artists comes together under the leadership of trumpet player, Jay Phelps, to re-arrange and perform the work of jazz legend Miles Davis.

The endlessly innovative Clod Ensemble brings their strange tale, The Red Chair (Wednesday 11 & Thursday 12 March, 7.30pm), an absurdist ghost-story which is told in a rich Scots dialect and served with a wee dram of whiskey. The Cardboard Citizens will bring forum theatre to the Culture Space with Benefit (Tuesday 12 & Wednesday 13 May, 7.30pm), allowing audience members to debate and participate in three interwoven stories.

Award-winning maths comedian Matt Parker's new show Now in 4D (Thursday 5 March, 7.30pm) is set to dazzle audiences with numbers, mind blowing spreadsheets, diagrams and lots of laughs. Meanwhile Tony Jameson is horrified by his own statistics as he ponders whether he could have done more with his life if he hadn't spent a huge chunk of it playing video games in Football Manager Ruined My Life (Friday 15 May, 7.30pm).

Storybook characters will be dropping in throughout the season on Saturdays for the family theatre programme, including the adventuress Rosie's Magic Horse (Saturday 28 February, 1pm & 3pm), fruity Handa's Surprise (Saturday 14 March, 11am, 1pm & 3pm), and scrummy The Magic Porridge & Other Tasty Tales (Saturday 18 April, 1pm & 3pm).

The newly opened Culture Café overlooks the water, and offers a range of freshly made sandwiches and wraps, as well as homemade cakes and scones for those craving something sweet.
