Camden People's Theatre to Present Revival of SPORTS PLAY, Jul 13-14

By:

Following the critically acclaimed run of SPORTS PLAY by Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek, which coincided with the London 2012 Olympics, Just a Must is reviving the play for two nights only at the Camden People's Theatre (13-14 July 2013) before embarking on an international tour to three continents.

SPORTS PLAY explores, with angry wit, the marketing and sale of human bodies and emotions in sport, questioning our obsession with fitness, body image and high performance at any cost. Blurring the boundaries between theatre and sport, this performance turns Jelinek's linguistic gymnastics into an Olympic feat for the actors and audiences alike.

Just a Must will perform SPORTS PLAY at the 53rd Ohrid Summer Festival in Macedonia in July 2013, at East InterNational Theatre Festival in Venezuela and InterNational Theatre Festival in Algeria in October 2013. In 2014, Just a Must will represent the UK at the International Contemporary Stage Festival in the capital of Brazil during the FIFA World Cup. These invitations have turned this production into a genuine cultural export.

Just a Must was founded by producer Berislav Juraic and director Vanda Butkovic to introduce postdramatic theatre in translation to British and international audiences. The company's work focuses on showcasing exciting authors who have generally been neglected in the British and international performing arts arena.

Camden People's Theatre (CPT) is a unique central London space dedicated to producing innovative theatre. Facilities include a 60-seat Studio Theatre, a fully licensed bar, affordable rehearsal rooms, and a foyer gallery space. Just a Must returns to CPT after the success of Tom Lyall's DEFRAG_ as part of 2012 Futureshock season.

SPORTS PLAY premiered on 11 July 2012 at Live at LICA in Lancaster, followed by UK tour and a run of London performances at the Chelsea Theatre. The original production was supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum London, the Arts Council England and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Stiegl, an Austrian beer company, is the production's principal sponsor.

Saturday-Sunday, 13-14 July 2013, 7:30pm

Tickets: £12/£10 concs.
