Yamaha CFX Concert Grand Performs in Toronto, 11/16

By:

It was on a CFX Yamaha concert grand that Yulianna Avdeeva won the 16th Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition last month in Warsaw.   The 25-year old Russian pianist received the Gold Medal, a laurel wreath, and 30,000 Euros. In addition, Yulianna was awarded the Krystian Zimerman prize for best sonata (12,000 €).

In addition to Yulianna, the fourth prize winner, Evgeni Bozhanov from Bulgaria, was a crowd favourite with the expressive intensity he coaxed from the CFX, and two other finalists who received special diplomas also chose the Yamaha CFX grand: Bulgaria's Nikolay Khozyainov, and  Hélène Tysman of France.

To hear the Yamaha CFX concert grand in Toronto, Olga Kern will give a solo recital on Tues. Nov. 16 at Koerner Hall.

Ms. Kern's recital repertoire:
Haydn's Sonata No. 48 in C Major, Hob XVI: 35, Op. 30, No. 1
Schumann's Carnaval: Scènes mignonnes sur quatre notes, Op.9
Rachmaninov's Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 36
Balakirev's Islamey: Oriental Fantasy

Popular broadcaster, writer, public speaker and musical tour guide Rick Phillips will chat about the CFX at intermission in the lobby.
