Sony Centre Celebrates Box Office Opening 9/7

The countdown has begun for the grand reopening of Toronto's newly renovated Sony Centre For The Performing Arts! In celebration of the 50th Anniversary Season, the Sony Centre Box Office (1 Front Street East) will open Tuesday, September 7th at 10 a.m. and the first person to arrive at the box office on that day will receive a Sony Pocket Edition (PRS 300) Sony Reader. Throughout the day, more prizes will be given away including tickets to the October 1st grand reopening, a hotel stay at One King West, and tickets to other Sony Centre performances.

Following two years of renovations and restorations to the interior, Sony Centre For The Performing Arts will re-open on October 1st with the Cirque Éloize hit production iD, direct from a sold-out engagement in Montreal. On September 7th ONLY, visitors to the Sony Centre box office can purchase iD tickets to the October 1-3 performances for a special price of $25.

Sony Centre Box Office Hours of operation are as follows:
September 7th 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
September 8th-24th Monday - Friday 11a.m. -5 p.m.

Box Office Hours as of Monday, September 27:
Non Performance Days: Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays and holidays - closed.
Performance days: Monday - Saturday: The box office will open the earlier of 11:00 a.m. or 3 hours prior to the time of the first performance of the day (but no earlier than 9:00 am) until ½ hour after curtain time of the last performance of the day.
Sundays and Holidays: The box office will open 3 hours prior to the time of the first performance of the day (but no earlier than 9:00 am) until ½ hour after curtain time of the last performance of the day.

Starting September 7th, Sony of Canada is hosting an extended "read-in" with speed reader and two-time Guinness World RecordTM holder for memory Dave Farrow, who will serve as a designated reader in the newly renovated Sony Centre For The Performing Arts. Dave will be living in the Sony Centre vestibule beside the box office from September 7 - 24th where he will be reading digital books on the new Reader Touch EditonTM and setting new speed reading records for 17 days. For each book he reads during this time, Sony will donate two ReaderTM Pocket Edition models to public libraries across Canada through the Sony Canada Charitable Foundation.

The Sony Centre For The Performing Arts is nearing completion of the first phase of its three-part renovation. Phase Two begins in 2011 with the construction of the new permanent backstage facilities and the L Tower, a 57-story residential tower designed by Daniel Libeskind. Phase Three encompasses the external cityscape design and public plaza and is scheduled to begin upon the tower's completion.
