One-Woman Show BROKEN IMAGES to Play Red Sandcastle Theatre This August Image

Neeraja Ramjee presents BROKEN IMAGES, a psychological thriller by acclaimed Indian contemporary playwright Girish Karnad, August 10-20, 2017 at Red Sandcastle Theatre. This is a one woman show starring Neeraja Ramjee, and directed by award-winning actor, director, and dramaturge Clinton Walker.

BROKEN IMAGES is a masterpiece of self-delusion and self-worth, taking a cutting look at the Indian literary establishment, the desire for fame, and the need to win at all costs. When Manjula, a mediocre Indian writer gets international fame for a book she wrote in English, and not her native tongue, she gets flak from her literary community, and is questioned without warning by her 'Image' to unearth the scandal behind her sudden rise to fame.

"As an avid fan of theatre, one would be hard pressed to find many diverse actors in lead or one person shows, and I would like this show to open doors, and nudge diversity in theatre a little bit further. I watched Broken Images staged over a decade ago, and it stayed with me. The play explores themes such as identify crisis, reality vs hyper-reality, and the desire for fame, which are all very relevant in today's digital/social media world." Neeraja Ramjee, producer, and actor in BROKEN IMAGES.

GIRISH KARNAD is an acclaimed contemporary Indian playwright and a Rhodes Scholar. He is also an actor, director and screen writer. He was conferred the Padma Bhushan by the President of India, and has been honoured with the Bharatiya Jnanpith, India's highest literary award.

Neeraja Ramjee (Manjula, producer) is a New York trained actor, and studied acting at New York Film Academy, and the Acting Studio in New York and improvisation at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB). Her recent credits include roles in theatre and film/TV, including Horrible Parent (June Havoc Theatre, NY), Bubbling (Beckman Theatre (ATA), NY), High Quality Friends (Arthur Seelen Theatre, NY), and Tremulous (Producer's Club Theatre, NY).

Clinton Walker (Director) is an award-winning director, actor, and dramaturge. As a director, Out (Toronto Fringe 2017/Best of Fringe), The Love Crimes of Frances Lark, Stiff (Heartache Theatre/Buddies In Bad Times), Dog Sees God, The Book of Esther, The 39 Steps, Prelude To a Kiss, The Beauty Queen of Lenane, The Laramie Project (The Guild Hall, Whitehorse, Yukon). As an actor, Million Dollar Quartet (The Globe Theatre), Ditch (Sometimes Y Theatre/ Dora Nomination for Performance), Romeo & Juliet (Canadian Stage Company), The Turn of The Screw (DVxT Theatre/Dora Win for Performance). Clinton's television credits include 11/22/63, Degrassi, Reign, Murdoch Mysteries, Copper and Queer As Folk).
