Hard-Bitten Productions to Bring #SCARECROW to Toronto Fringe Festival
Hard-Bitten Productions' play #scarecrow will be produced at this year's 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival. #scarecrow tells the story of how a group of friends deal with their guilt when their childhood friend, Tesai, is found unconscious in a motel room.
#scarecrow is a multimedia production that addresses how social media has shaped our images to the point where our images may feel more real than our own skin. An experience witnessed frequently today when 50% of us who are affected by social networking find those effects to be negative, according to a University of Salford study. Negative effects including anxiety, and lowered self-esteem.
But what about the positive effects? How 'real' are hundreds of likes on a profile picture? Is it quantified beauty, or popularity, and according to what standards? These are some of the questions put forth in the dark comedy.
After positive reviews following staged readings at the 2015 Piece of Mine Festival and Sing for Your Supper, Hard-Bitten is excited to present the first production of #scarecrow. Patrons from the readings described it as "entertaining," and said "they forgot they were 'watching a play.'"
Keeping with the company mandate to encourage inclusivity, the ensemble is composed of a diverse group of emerging actors from Toronto.
