From Toronto to the Tonys: Which Production Seen Here Was Nominated?

This year, two shows with a Toronto connection transferred to Broadway, and this morning it was announced that one of these, Bring it On: The Musical, has been nominated for two Tony Awards.

Bring it On: The Musical focuses on the world of competitive cheerleading trough the eyes of the protagonist, Campbell (Taylor Louderman).

Bring it On: The Musical is nominated for Best Musical as well as Best Choreography for creative team member Andy Blankenbuehler.

Bring it On: The Musical features Music by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) and Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), Lyrics by Amanda Green (High Fidelity) and Lin-Manuel Miranda, and a book by Jeff Whitty.

Jekyll and Hyde is the second show that transferred to Broadway this year after playing a short engagement in Toronto, to mostly mixed reviews. The production was not nominated for any Tonys, although it was eligible in numerous categories. The production stars former American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis and Canadian born R&B singer Deborah Cox.

Jekyll and Hyde has music by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Frank Wildhorn, Leslie Bricusse, and Steve Cuden, and a book by Leslie Bricusse.

Bring it On: The Musical closed on Broadway earlier this year, while Jekyll and Hyde continues to entertain audiences at the Marquis Theatre in New York City. A new tour for Bring it On: The Musical is planned for January 2014, and will be produced by Troika Entertainment.
