Canadian History Project Presents IN HIS NAME, Now thru 4/27

By:

With a mandate to produce plays set in Canada prior to Confederation, The Canadian History Project is proud to present In His Name-Dollard Des Ormeaux and the Battle of Long Sault, written by Robert Tsonos and directed by Adam Bailey, from tonight, April 23rd to 27th, 2014. Performances will be held Wednesday to Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm at The Array Space (155 Walnut Avenue, Toronto). Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at https://inhisname.eventbrite.ca, by calling 4169937929, or by emailing inhisnametickets@hotmail.com.

Set in 1660, In His Name is not just the story of a 350 year old event in which 17 Frenchmen fought off 700 native warriors, saving the small settlement of Ville Marie (Montréal). The play is about young men fighting for their country, the loved ones who struggle to save them, and the religious and political ties that control them. Replace the battle for furs with the battle for oil and In His Name mirrors the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The play is an inventive, fast?paced, theatrically stylized drama.

Directed by Adam Bailey (Saint Francis Talks to the BirdsRoyal Porcupine Productions, The Enchanted CrackhouseThe Enchanted Collected) and starring Ellen Denny (A Christmas Carol Neptune Theatre, Anne Shirley The Guild Charlottetown), Blythe Haynes (The Killdeer Alumnae Theatre, Mary's Wedding Toronto Fringe), Christopher Isaak (Paradises Lost-Summerworks, Last 5 Years Act Natural Productions), Josh Johnston (The Resistible Rise of Arturo UiRed Light District, Something is Wrong Naught, A Theatre Company), Scott McCulloch (The Dreamer Examines his Pillow JR Theatre, Time Stands Still Unit 102), Mark Nelson, Clinton Lee Pontes, and Clinton Walker (The Book of Esther, Director-Whitehorse, Ditch-TPM Backspace Dora Nomination).

Playwright Robert Tsonos recently won The Uprising National Playwrights' Award for his play It's Time, and this month completed a playwright residency at Globus Theatre.

In His Name was workshopped at Playwrights' Workshop Montreal, was a finalist in both the Herman Voaden Playwriting Competition and the Playwrights of Spring Competition, and received a staged reading at the Atlantic Stage New Play Festival in Myrtle Beach, SC.
