Calgary's EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL Extends Through 7/12

By:

Ground Zero Theatre (GZT) and Hit & Myth Productions (H&M) follow two wildly successful trips through musical theatre, (Urinetown: The Musical and The Full Monty), with their gutsiest and most bold production yet. Evil Dead: The Musical, directed by Kevin McKendrick, is at The Playhouse at Vertigo Theatre Centre (115-9th Avenue, Base of the Calgary Tower), now playing until July 12th. Tickets for Evil Dead: the Musical are on sale now, available through the Vertigo Theatre Box Office at 403-221-3708 or online at www.gzt.ca

GZT and H&M are bloody thrilled to be the first Canadian companies outside Toronto to present Evil Dead: the Musical, based on the popular Sam Raimi cult-classic movie series, Evil Dead, and Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn and Army of Darkness. Evil Dead: The Musical tells the familiar story, all told with toe-tapping songs and energetic dancing: boy and four friends break into an abandoned cabin while on a weekend getaway; boy expects to get lucky; boy discovers an ancient flesh-bound book with the power to summon the demons of Candar; boy unleashes ancient evil spirit; boy turns friends into Candarian Demons; boy fights until dawn to survive.

The cast, performing All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons, Look Who's Evil Now and Do the Necronomicon, features (in alphabetical order) Christian Goutsis (Scotty), Lynley Hall (Linda), Bruce Horak (Jake), Daniel Mallet (Moose, et al), Rebecca Northan (Annie/Shelly), Jamie Tognazzini (Cheryl), Tyler Rive (Ash), and Guilly Urra (Ed).

Director Kevin McKendrick is joined by Assistant Director Sean Bowie, with book and lyrics by George Reinblatt, music by Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris and George Reinblatt, music direction by Brent Rock, choreography by Glenda Stirling, assistant choreography by Jessica Nottell, set design by David Gallo, lighting by Terry Gunvordahl, costume design by Deitra Kalyn, effects supervision by Bleeding Art Industries, stage management by Amy Lippold, and assistant stage management by Emma Brager and Ruby Dawn Eustaquio.

GZT and H&M present Evil Dead: The Musical, at The Playhouse at Vertigo Theatre Centre, (115-9th Avenue, Base of the Calgary Tower), now playing until July 12, 2009. Regular seating tickets are $45 plus GST and service charges, and Splatter Zone* tickets are $70 plus GST and service charges, on sale now, available at the Vertigo Theatre Box Office at 403-221-3708 or online at www.gzt.ca.
