Actor Brent Carver has withdrawn from the Stratford Festival's 2018 season for personal reasons. He was to play the role of Ariel in The Tempest.

"We're all so sorry to hear that Brent will not be able to join us on The Tempest," said Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino, who is directing the production. "He's a much-loved colleague and friend. We really look forward to welcoming Brent back to the Stratford Festival acting company in an upcoming season."

Mr. Carver says he is disappointed to miss out on the joyous experience of working with Martha Henry as she takes on the role of Prospero and with all of the extraordinary company in this production. He is thrilled to still participate in the season by performing a concert with the Art of Time Ensemble at the Stratford Festival Forum on August 25.

André Morin will now play the role of Ariel.

"I'm delighted to have André Morin join us as Ariel," said Mr. Cimolino. "He is a deeply gifted actor who has created many extraordinary performances over the last five seasons at the Festival. Martha and I both are eager to begin this work with him and the rest of our amazing ensemble."

Mr. Morin studied with Ms Henry at the Festival's Birmingham Conservatory in 2014 and 2015 and has quickly become a stand-out performer. This past season he played Parry in The Virgin Trial and the Servant in Bakkhai. His other Stratford credits include Edmund in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Peter van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank and Motel in Fiddler on the Roof.

The Tempest begins rehearsals on Thursday, February 22, and opens on Monday, May 28, with previews beginning Thursday, May 10.

The Stratford Festival's 2018 season runs from April 17 to November 4, featuring The Tempest, The Comedy of Errors, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, The Music Man, The Rocky Horror Show, Long Day's Journey Into Night, An Ideal Husband, To Kill a Mockingbird, Napoli Milionaria!, Brontë: The World Without and Paradise Lost.
