Review: HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS - IN CONCERT at the Sony Centre Image

The magic returns to the Sony Centre. HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS - IN CONCERT presents the second film in the franchise, accompanied by Joshua Gersen and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, performing John Williams' epic score. Presented by the Sony Centre and Attila Glatz Concert Productions, this event continues the Harry Potter Cinematic Concert Series - based on the enthusiasm of the audience, I'd say these events will continue through to the end of the series.

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry continue, but a menacing presence threatens to divide the students, or worse, kill them. It will take everything that Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) have, to keep the school open and keep the wizarding world safe.

It is heart-warming to hear a full orchestra, as capable as the TSO, playing music that stirs so much nostalgia. The most memorable melodies suddenly become rich and full of texture, as Gersen guides the orchestra through the film. You have no idea how insane the film's quidditch music is, until you witness the strings violently bowing to keep up, Gersen practically lifting off his feet while he conducts, while on screen, a rogue bludger attempts to knock Harry off his broom. It is Harry Potter at its most exhilarating.

Together, with 3000 other fans, you get to cheer for your house, boo Uncle Vernon and applaud for your favourite characters. For a hard-core Potter fan, the experience is like no other.

There are only TWO more chances to catch HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS - IN CONCERT - Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14 at 7:30pm at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, 1 Front St E, Toronto, ON
