JoJo (Faly Mevamanana) and our team
hard at work on sound effect details

In the glow of desk lamps

And bright coloured screens

Sits a group of workers-

Our talented tech team!

As the lights begin to hum

And the drums begin to snare

They're bringing our show together

With nuance and flare!

With only a week until we open our show,

It's time to tackle tech week,

Away we GO!

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

Nothing is going to get better.

It's not."

-- The Lorax

The Lorax may not appear in the TYA version of Seussical, but that didn't stop his Truffula trees from taking over the Annex Theatre stage this past weekend. We walked into rehearsal last Monday morning to see that our creative and kooky set was finished and ready for play. Since then, our technical team has been working hard to paint this canvas. They have truly been bringing the Jungle of Nool and the Planet of Who to life!

From rippling waves to swirling leaves,

Our team has revealed the tricks up their sleeves!

There may be swimming fish and cars that putter...

But then again, WHO can tell when rumours sputter.

Our week's strong momentum continued as we headed into our first Sitz-Prob on Wednesday night. For weeks, our musical director, Kieren MacMillan, has been describing how the "Wacka-Wacka" and "Boomchicka-Boom" of the band would give us the last amount of groove needed to find the true nuance of our songs. This statement proved to be true. The cast couldn't help but jam in their seats from the second the full band started to play. One of my favourite moments was watching the whole cast do the "Here on Who" choreography perfectly and in-sync, without needing to reference Mr. Mayor and his family even once.

Our topsy-turvy week continued as we completed several run-throughs and added final tech and musical components. Finally, on Saturday evening, we had our dress rehearsal-including FULL COSTUMES! While the cast mingled on stage, waiting to do our pre-run sound check, I couldn't help but beam as I looked around at my classmates. The Whos looked family-photo ready in their colour-coordinating, kooky outfits. Meanwhile, the bird girls and Mayzie looked like they had just stepped off a glamorous Las Vegas stage. While the Wickershams and Sour Kangaroo rocked their edgy Jungle get-ups, Gertrude and Horton's outfits screamed endearment. And what about the Cat in the Hat you may ask? He had just the right amount of cute mixed with pure mischief!

Tech is done and previews are here!

We hope to make our audiences laugh and cheer!

So bring on previews, then opening night ...

SHOW WEEK is finally in our sight!!!!

Randolph Academy's Seussical will run from November 29th to December 3rd at the Annex Theatre, Toronto, ON, Canada.
