BWW Blog: Samantha Jamieson - Oh, The Places We'll Go!

Oh, The Places We'll Go!

(*cough cough*)

I am Sam.

Sam I am.

I've never had green eggs and ham.

You see... well to me... it smells like rotten fish.

And I don't like how it sits and wiggles on the dish.

So instead, I'm here to offer a different platter!

One FARRR more appealing for that matter!

See, I know of a place that's now being formed,

Where there's magic and excitement to be performed!

The Who's in this world are ready and eager,

They may even have a small hankering for theatre.

So join me, I promise you won't be sorry,

Be prepared for a zimmering, zattering story!

It's Official!

Rehearsals for Randolph Academy's production of Seussical TYA have officially commenced! The graduating class of December '16 can't wait to bring their own wacky, zany twist to the beloved and heartfelt show. The amazing Kiri-Lyn Muir (Director) and Kieren MacMillan (Musical Director) have already proven themselves to be irreplaceable guides as we entered into the swirling, twirling world of Dr. Seuss this week.

Oh the places you'll go

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting

So ... get on your way

~ Dr. Seuss

I'm not sure whether it was everyone's excitement or the sugar high from the donuts Kiri brought in, but the room was buzzing in the morning as we waited for our first day of rehearsals to begin! (Which, let's be honest, is a difficult feat in the airy, cathedral-like atmosphere of the Annex Theatre.) Nevertheless, we all tried our best to contain our jitters as the production meeting began. Our efforts, however, were futile.

Creative Team" is an understatement! The wonderful world our team has designed for us to live in is incredible! We couldn't help but giggle, gasp, hoot and holler as the production's magic was revealed to us. I'm not sure how the team snuck into Dr. Seuss' dreams, but the bright colours (or lack thereof *wink wink*), look as though they have jumped right off of the pages of his beloved books.

Which, I would like to point out, were present, in a bright, lopsided pile, as we gathered around to have a conversation about the origins of Dr. Seuss and the creation of Seussical.

I wouldn't be able to use words like "zattering", if the fun had stopped there! We launched right into learning our first songs - starting off our marathon week of learning the WHOLE score - bookended with a full musical sing through on Friday.

If we were able to accomplish that much in just the first week, all I can say is:

You're gonna need to see this!

So far, this week has continued our swirling, twirling ride as we've kickstarted choreographing almost HALF the show!

Stick around! Oh, the places we're about to go!

Randolph Academy's Seussical will run from November 29 to December 3 at the Annex Theatre, Toronto, ON, Canada.
