BORDERTOWN CAFE Returns To The Blythe Festival 7/2

By:

Bordertown Café by Kelly Rebar returns to the Blyth Festival stage after premiering in Blyth in 1987. The production opens at the Blyth Festival July 2.

Bordertown Café is a much-loved Canadian classic. It follows the story of seventeen- year-old Jimmy, his single mom, outspoken American grandmother, and quiet grandfather who live and work together in a small café on the edge of the Alberta/Montana border. When Jimmy learns that his father wants to take him to live in Wyoming, life in the little café turns upside down. A funny and poignant battle of generations rages as a prairie kid takes his fist real steps towards life in the adult world.

Bordertown Café was commissioned by the Blyth Festival in 1986, and premiered the following summer under the direction of Katherine Kaszas. Ms. Kaszas, the festival's artistic director from 1984-90, returns this year to direct the revival.

The cast of Bordertown Café includes returning company members Michelle Fisk, Marion Day, and Brad Rudy. Nathan Carroll, a recent graduate from George Brown Theatre School in Toronto, also joins the cast to make his professional debut with the Blyth Festival.

Preview performances of Bordertown Café run June 30 - July 1, prior to the official opening on July 2. Bordertown Café plays at the Blyth Festival in repertory until August 14.

Bordertown Café is sponsored by Blyth Festival Members. The Media Sponsor is The Rural Voice.

The Blyth Festival's 2010 season runs June 23 to September 4 and also features A Killing Snow by Paul Ciufo, Pearl Gidley by Gary Kirkham and The Book of Esther by Leanna Brodie. For more information please visit www.blythfestival.com or call 1-877-862-5984.
