BAKERSFIELD MIST to Play the Theatre Centre This Autumn
Bakersfield Mist by Stephen Sachs, the smash hit comedy that has seen productions around the world including London's West End, will come to the Theatre Centre for a limited run beginning Nov. 2.
Inspired by true events, Bakersfield Mist is the story of Maude Gutman, an unemployed, chain-smoking ex-bartender living in a run-down California trailer park, who believes the painting she bought in a thrift store for $3 is really an undiscovered masterpiece worth millions. When stuffy New York art expert Lionel Percy arrives to evaluate the work, the result is a fiery and often hilarious debate over class, truth, value and the meaning of art.
Bakersfield Mist stars Marie Carriere Gleason and Thomas Gough. It is directed by David Eden. Set design for Bakersfield Mist is by Chandos Ross; lighting design is by Linas Kairys; and the fight director is Christopher Mott. The production stage manager is Hannah MacMillan.
Marie Carriere Gleason is a local actor who will be remembered for her recent portrayal of Violet in August Osage County at Alumnae Theatre. She wrote her own Fringe play, First Woman Plural which she toured across the country. Thomas Gough has acted in film, television and on the stage with a number of companies, including Storefront Theatre, Hart House and Alumnae Theatre.
The Theatre Centre is a nationally recognized live-arts incubator that serves as a research and development hub for the cultural sector. It is a public space, open and accessible to the people of our community, where citizens can imagine, debate, celebrate, protest, unite and be responsible for inventing the future.
Bakersfield Mist runs Nov. 2 to Nov. 5, Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25; $20 for seniors and $18 for students and arts workers.
